For months now, televangelist Kenneth Copeland has been telling viewers that the COVID crisis was over all because God — acting through Copeland — defeated it.
In early March, he asked viewers to touch their TV screens against his oily hand in order to prevent the virus.

By the end of March, he declared COVID-19 to be dead (“It! Is! Finished!”) and that a vaccine would be delivered immediately.
He even spit on the virus.
By the end of April, he was still declaring COVID-19 to be “OVER!”
So given all that, who on earth are his daughter and son-in-law still urging Copeland’s congregation to take “authority over coronavirus”? Why would they need to take control over a virus that Copeland has repeatedly said doesn’t even exist anymore?
This is what went down during Sunday’s VICTORY Update service. (Note the congregation’s lack of face masks and social distancing.)
We maintain our stand of faith over COVID-19. We take Dominion and complete authority over coronavirus! We are redeemed from the curse of plagues. We walk in the blessing of Abraham! We have been given the name which is above every name!
Coronavirus, bow your knee to the name of Jesus!
Coronavirus, we command you, cease and desist! Now! In Jesus’ name.
According to Revelation 12:11, we overcome COVID-19 by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. According to 1 John 5:4, this is the victory that overcomes COVID-19, that overcomes everything that we face in our lives, even our faith. In the name of Jesus, the blood of the Lamb, and the word of God, we declare it so.
COVID-19, get out of this city in the name of Jesus!
Now come on and praise God everybody.
Either Copeland lied about defeating the virus, the prayers haven’t mitigated the damage, or this is nothing more than Christian fantasy. Or all of the above.
The virus is clearly having an impact on these people. After all, no one in this congregation seems to have any long-term memory.
The pandemic is not over. If anything, because too many Americans like the ones in this crowd refuse to self-quarantine and wear face masks, the problem is only getting worse, and our nation remains both a global embarrassment and global threat.
