Christian Radio Host Mocks Masks, Quarantines, Hand-Washing in Ignorant Rant

During his radio show on Tuesday, Christian radio host Frank Sontag railed against mandates involving face masks, social distancing, self-quarantines, and even hand-washing.

Not because the data about the efficacy is problematic. But because… well, no reason. He just doesn’t like anyone telling him what the “truth” is. (Science. He’s referring to science.)

… Now, do I think masks are important?… I think it should be a personal choice. “But you may harm somebody else!” Really? Explain that one to me. Tell me the line of logic by which we now just, as a matter of factly, believe things is true because we’re told it’s the truth.

Or even social distancing! Or washing your hands 50 times a day. And again… I point this all back to the immune system. Our immune system thrives in environments… which aren’t pristinely clean. We might as well just tell our immune system “we don’t need you anymore” if we’re gonna try to live 24/7 in some sterile environment — or really quarantining healthy people? God help me, please.

I don’t want to go off on a rant. I don’t want to be… I don’t want to be a vehicle by which it creates more fear. Quite the contrary. I think sometimes we need to be shaken out of a nightmare to say “wake up!”

Masks, social distancing, you can’t sing at church. You’ve got to be kidding me. You can’t even sing at church wearing a mask! Seriously! It’s amazing.

Sontag seems blissfully unaware that our immune system can be overwhelmed, especially when it encounters a fast-acting virus it’s not already familiar with.

We know, for example, that symptomatic people who have the virus can spread it when they speak (or sing!) in close proximity to others. Every precaution Sontag hates prevents that very situation from happening, yet it’s all too much for him. He seems to think if people are exposed to the virus, their bodies will overcome it.

There are more than 130,000 examples proving him wrong.
