Polling Suggests Trump’s Pathetic Bible Photo Op Cost Him Support in Michigan

Well, well, well, it looks like Donald Trump‘s idiotic photo op, during which he held up a Bible he’s never read in front of a church he doesn’t attend after tear-gassing Americans he doesn’t care for, didn’t do him any favors.

According to the Lansing polling firm EPIC-MRA, based in Michigan, a poll that was conducted May 30 to June 3 found Democrat Joe Biden with a 12-point lead. But a separate poll, conducted June 1 to June 4, gave Biden a 16-point lead.

The Bible photo op took place on June 1.

Both polls have a 4% margin of error. So it could be a coincidence… or it could be that watching Trump’s shameless PR stunt, which was praised by the worst evangelical Christians in the country, angered even some of his own supporters.

EPIC-MRA pollster Bernie Porn attributed the quick drop to public backlash and negative press resulting from Trump’s staged photo on June 1. The two polls collected responses from separate samples of 600 likely Michigan voters and both had a 4% margin of error.

“That is, by the process of elimination, the only reason that you go from a 12-point lead to a 16-point lead,” Porn said. “(Trump) went from 38% of people saying they would definitely vote to re-elect him to only 33% saying that they would definitely vote to re-elect him.”

[Insert your own joke about the pollster’s name here. Are we done? Good.]

Keep in mind that since the beginning of this month, Trump has also botched the police brutality issue for which there have been protests nationwide. And the COVID crisis continues to worsen in states that chose to reopen before they were ready.

None of this should make anyone complacent. Trump won Michigan in 2016 and he may do it again in November if decent people don’t vote for the only viable alternative. There are a lot of stupid, selfish Americans who will vote for Trump. That’s especially true in swing states like Michigan. All the more reason you should vote, volunteer, donate to better candidates if you can, and steer everyone you know in a more progressive direction.
