Texas GOP Leader: George Floyd’s Murder Was “Staged” to Create “Racial Tensions”

The first line of the biography for the chair of the Republican Party of Bexar County in Texas goes like this: “Cynthia Brehm is a Christian.”

And now you can guess how this story is going to go.

The conservative Christian is under fire after claiming the murder of George Floyd — which was caught on video — was “staged” for the “purpose of creating racial tensions and driving a wedge in the growing group of anti deep state sentiment.”

It’s not just Democrats calling her out. Her fellow Republicans are calling on her to resign. Here’s Travis County Republican Party Chairman Matt Mackowiak:

Even Gov. Greg Abbott condemned the statement:

“These comments are disgusting and have no place in the Republican Party or in public discourse,” Abbott spokesman John Wittman said in a statement Thursday morning.

Uh… I appreciate the sentiment, but has Abbott ever seen the Republican Party? Those comments aren’t just commonplace in the GOP; that’s pretty much the platform.

Anyway, back to Brehm, the Christian racist. While she deleted the above post, she insists she won’t resign. It comes weeks after Brehm (who, again, is a Christian racist) said coronavirus was a hoax… even though more than 110,000 Americans have died in the pandemic.

If Brehm is the head of the county GOP, though, it makes sense that every Republican who represents that area should be associated with her comments. Only seems fair. Or those candidates are free to denounce her and reject her ignorance. Don’t expect that to happen. If Republicans rejected ignorance, they would never get elected in Texas.
