Right-Wing Activists: Mad About George Floyd? Then Protest Planned Parenthood.

Conservative activist and former state legislator Gordon Klingenschmitt and fellow right-wing broadcaster Josh Bernstein have a very important question about the riots taking place in Minneapolis in response to the murder of George Floyd:

How come those people aren’t also protesting Planned Parenthood?

It’s the one thing literally nobody was asking.

Apparently, they think that if protesters care about black lives so much, that should apply to black fetuses as well.

“Planned Parenthood has killed 360,000 black babies in 2014 and similar numbers and other years,” Klingenschmitt said. “Black children have been the victims of genocide for many, many years and nobody bats an eye. In fact, the Democrats want federal funding for this. Is there any outrage that you’ve seen over the innocent blacks who are being murdered compared to this guy who was suspected of forgery? Granted, that is a crime. He’s not innocent, but still should not have been mistreated the way he was.”

“There’s no question that the Democrats are truly the party of death,” Bernstein responded. “They celebrate death, they fund death, they do political activity based on the ability to bring death to unborn babies … These people are animals, truly animals, that anyone that would do that to a child, but you know, I don’t see them protesting in front of Planned Parenthoods. Where are the black activists out there that are for life that should be out there protesting Planned Parenthood?”

I can’t believe we need to explain this when it seems so obvious…

Abortion is an elective procedure. Planned Parenthood employees aren’t hunting down black women and dragging them into the clinic to abort their fetuses, which means their work is not genocide. Applying that term to abortion is a conservative tactic meant to draw attention away from the actual reasons that bring women to Planned Parenthood, whether it’s poverty, lack of access to birth control, or just their own choices. Oddly enough, Republicans routinely block measures to make healthcare and childcare more affordable, inevitably leading to increased abortion rates. (Under Democrats, those rates go down.)

Unfortunately, the truth isn’t nearly as attention-grabbing as propaganda.

Why talk about systemic racism and the president adding fuel to the fire when you can deflect and talk about abortion instead?
