Here’s some unexpected good news. Matt Shea, the Washington State lawmaker who could do no right, won’t be running for re-election this year. The filing deadline for his seat came and went and he never submitted the paperwork — apparently on purpose.
Shea is a domestic terrorist and Christian Nationalist best known for his “Biblical Basis for War” manifesto and for proposing the creation of a 51st state just for Christians. More recently, he was fined nearly $4,700 for dumping oil at the State Capitol, effectively vandalizing historic masonry, because he didn’t like how The Satanic Temple was protesting outside.
Even some Republicans pushed for him to resign, but he never did. He wanted a theocracy and would stop at nothing to use his power to establish Christianity as the government’s religion.
But he’ll be out of office soon.
Shea did not file to run again for the Legislature as the candidate filing deadline for the August primary expired Friday afternoon, said Mike McLaughlin, elections manager for the Spokane County Auditor’s Office. Shea did, however, file to run as a Republican precinct committee officer.
