Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee (a.k.a. Sarah Huckabee Sanders‘ dad and guy who would’ve lied about being transgender so he could shower with girls in high school) loves to ignore actual crises. That’s why, when there’s a mass shooting, he calls for prayer, not gun safety regulations.
And when it comes to COVID-19, instead of pushing for Republicans to take strong science-based actions, he’s using the pandemic to… tell people about Jesus. Because COVID-19 might kill you, but sin absolutely will.
… there is a virus that we hear almost nothing about these days, and it is absolutely going to touch you. In fact, the death rate from it is 100%.
I take this pandemic seriously and you should as well. But statistically, your risk of getting the virus is still remote and the risk of dying from it is minimal. But there is a virus that we hear almost nothing about these days, and it is absolutely going to touch you. In fact, the death rate from it is 100%.
I speak of the virus of sin, an infection that has been passed on since the beginning of human existence…
He takes the pandemic so seriously, he’s using a platform geared toward anti-science Christians to promote a myth they already accept.
It’s not even a good analogy. Sin is personal. By his own logic, you can decide whether or not to commit sins. You don’t get that choice with a real virus; you just have to take sensible precautions. But because so many states and our federal government are run by people like Huckabee, more Americans will suffer. That’s what happens when you give the most power to the least reasonable people.
