Australian Pastor: The “Blood of Jesus” Will Protect My Church from Coronavirus

Margaret Court (below), the former Australian tennis star, has become far better known in recent years for her virulent anti-LGBT bigotry. She opposed marriage equality in the country before it became legal, and she has claimed LGBTQ people brainwash children… just like Hitler did.

Court is now the pastor of Victory Life Centre, a Christian church in Perth. They have no plans to close services as a result of the coronavirus, and a message on her website shows just how far Court is willing to take her religious delusions.

We are in agreement that this [COVID-19] will not come near our dwelling or our church family. We are praying daily for you, knowing that we are all protected by the Blood of Jesus.

I can’t believe this needs to be said, but the blood of Jesus won’t protect anyone during a pandemic. The coronavirus is not afraid of a cross. She must be thinking of Dracula.

And keeping the church open — to hell with social distancing, I guess — puts everyone inside in danger. Even if symptoms aren’t showing, plenty of people could be vectors for the virus to spread. And you know the sort of people who attend the most bigoted churches tend to be the elderly.

Court’s irresponsible desire to spread her hate at all costs is putting her own congregation in jeopardy.

It’s too late to salvage her reputation, but it’s not too late to say future services are canceled. She may be too stubborn to do the right thing.
