Several Republican politicians were exposed to someone at CPAC who tested positive for COVID-19, and they have chosen to quarantine themselves so as to not get anyone else infected. Why even take the risk of possibly transmitting the disease to your colleagues, constituents, and staffers? Sen. Ted Cruz is among those currently isolating themselves until the threat passes.
Mock him all you want; it’s the responsible thing to do.
But one Republican is taking a different approach. Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert says he will not quarantine himself despite possible exposure to the patient at the center of this issue.
After CDC physician called me Sunday evening, and we discussed all the specific circumstances of which he was aware along with my circumstances, including that I was and am asymptomatic, he said that all things considered, I was cleared to return to Washington. (2/3)

Leave it to the most anti-science member of Congress to ignore the experts and potentially pass a disease along to everyone who comes into contact with him. It’s not that he has the symptoms. It’s that he might develop them, yet he doesn’t care who he hurts.
None of this a surprise if you’d followed his career. This is a guy who constantly claims Christians are being persecuted, that climate change is a hoax, and evolution is fiction.
Why would he listen to scientists now? He never has before.
And yet people in Texas continue putting him in a position of power. The voters are as ignorant as he is, and this time, he’s not just one vote. He’s a vector for disease.
