Pat Robertson to Teen Afraid of Lightning: Who Cares? You’ll “Be With Jesus”

In yet another reminder of why you should never ask Pat Robertson for advice, a 16-year-old girl wrote to The 700 Club yesterday because she’s afraid of thunderstorms and getting hit by lightning. But she also thinks God wouldn’t allowed such a thing. So what should she do to overcome her fears?

Robertson’s advice?

Get hit. Who cares. You’ll be in Heaven.

And he said it while his co-host and the off-screen staff laughed their asses off.

So you get hit by lightning. So big deal! So you die. So you know the Lord. So what happens when you die? You go to be with Jesus. So you’re better off!

He gave a somewhat more scientific explanation of lightning after that — “make sure you got rubber shoes on” — but insisted she would never get hit by it, “so just chill, okay?”

Reassuring as always.
