Indicted Planned Parenthood Shooter Tells Judge, “I Am Just a Religious Zealot”

Robert L. Dear, Jr., the Christian terrorist accused of killing three people (including a police officer) during a rampage at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic in 2015, was indicted by a federal grand jury today on 68 counts.

That’s not the same thing as being found guilty, but it’s an important step along that road. He’s now in custody, having been at the State Mental Hospital. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

According to the 13-page indictment, Dear intended to wage “war” on the clinic because it offered abortion services. To that end, he arrived at the health care clinic Nov. 27, 2015, armed with six rifles, five handguns, a shotgun, more than 500 rounds of ammunition and propane tanks he intended to detonate as law enforcement officers approached.

Dear fired nearly 200 rounds over the course of a five-hour standoff, including firing at firefighters and law enforcement officers outside the building in the strip-mall parking lot…

He’s so “pro-life” that he decided murdering people was the best way to show his devotion.

What’s more, he’s been openly admitting his own guilt. He has said to a judge that he’s a “warrior for babies” and said this morning, “I am not crazy. I am just a religious zealot.”

Hard to tell what the difference is.

Dear says he wants to represent himself. For now, his next court appearance will be on January 9.
