Marysville (MI) City Council Candidate Wants to Keep it “White” Like God Wanted

During a candidate forum for the Marysville City Council in Michigan last night, one of the five people vying for the three open seats, Jean Cramer, argued that the town must try to remain white.

Because the Bible said so.

“Keep Marysville a white community as much as possible,” said newcomer Jean Cramer… The question: “Do you believe the diversity of our community needs to be looked at, and if so, should we be more aggressive in attracting foreign-born citizens?”

One candidate responded to that bigoted comment by asking if it was still 2019.

Mayor Pro Tem Kathy Hayman added that her father was born in another country and he was a Marysville official for 55 years. They were sitting in a room named after him. So WTF?! Also, her own family is mixed race, she said, and “I take this very personally what you’ve said.”

The Times Herald asked Cramer if she wanted to clarify her remarks later. As you’d expect, she just doubled down on them instead. She also threw in a Bible reference for good measure.

“As long as, how can I put this? What Kathy Hayman doesn’t know is that her family is in the wrong,” she said. “(A) husband and wife need to be the same race. Same thing with kids. That’s how it’s been from the beginning of, how can I say, when God created the heaven and the earth. He created Adam and Eve at the same time. But as far as me being against blacks, no I’m not.”

God created Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Eve… but with slightly different colors. Obviously.

That last line is the kicker, isn’t it? She’s not racist, y’all. She just doesn’t want their genes getting mixed up with her pure ones. God would disapprove. BUT DON’T CALL HER RACIST!!

I suppose the good news is that the forum worked. People learned of at least one major difference between the candidates.

One downside to having a Republican in the White House is that racists feel emboldened and they feel no need to hide their bigotry. Maybe that’s the upside here, too. Cramer, unable to read the room, wrongly assumed people would just be on her side. I’d like to think she was surprised at the backlash, but that would require at least a bit of self awareness.
