“Project Blitz” is the Christian Right’s three-pronged strategy to push their faith through the government. The name referred to the idea that if Christian politicians jammed legislatures with a variety of bills, some of them would eventually pass.
There were three specific categories of bills: Symbolic ones (like putting “In God We Trust” everywhere), pro-Christian ones (like passing “Christian Heritage Week” resolutions), and anti-everybody-else ones (like bills that allow Christian business owners to discriminate against gay customers).
But if that’s too much to go through, Rachel Laser, the president of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, does a great job giving an overview of the plan in this video for NBC News.
As she says near the end, “Religious freedom should protect people like a shield, and it should not be weaponized to hurt people like a sword.”
If nothing else, recognize that all the Christian Right’s bills that are currently making a lot of headway in red states all spring from a small group of conservative activists who have every intention of bringing the nation as close as they can to a Christian theocracy while still pretending to respect the beliefs of other people.
The fact is, if any non-Christian group attempted to do something similar, the FOX News crowd would flip out as if there was a coup underway.
