Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee (a.k.a. Sarah Huckabee Sanders‘ dad and guy who wishes he could’ve showered with girls in high school) has some thoughts about the biggest threat to the “moral fiber” of America, by which he means our nation’s “biblical principles.”
It’s not Donald Trump. It’s not a foreign enemy. It’s not lying your ass off in order to keep your job in the White House.
In an interview with the Christian Post, Huckabee said the biggest threat to the biblical principles that define our nation’s goodness is transgender people… or at least our “failure to apply a biblical standard of maleness and femaleness,” which is Christianese for the existence and acceptance of transgender people.
“The biggest threat to biblical principles today is the failure to apply a biblical standard of maleness and femaleness,” Huckabee told The Christian Post during a sit-down interview last week in Anaheim, California. “We are creating this illusion that there is no gender, there is no identity, and I’m blaming the Christian Church.”
… “The gender dysphoria we’re seeing today is largely due to the fact that the Church has failed to present very clearly the words of Jesus and Genesis 5:2: ‘Male and female He created them.’”
As if Christians don’t do enough to oppress LGBTQ people…
Naturally, even his statement that “there is no gender” makes absolutely no sense. A guy who doesn’t understand what “transgender” means has no business pretending it’s leading to our nation’s moral downfall.
Huckabee also blamed Christians for allowing no-fault divorces, same-sex marriage, and single parenting (or at least perpetuating the idea that fathers “really aren’t necessary” which I didn’t realize anyone did).
“There are some people who are in single parenthood, not because they want to be, but because they were forced to be. And we ought to give [them] all the support,” he clarified. “But we should never pretend that it is as good as a loving mother and father in a home where a child sees both genders play out their norms because that’s the modeling of behavior that would be ideal for a child to grow up in.”
But all of this is expected from Huckabee, who thinks LGBTQ people are somehow a threat to his existence. Meanwhile, we have a president who paid hush money to a porn star and model to cover up the affairs he had with them after his third wife gave birth to his fifth child… and that guy’s the evangelical hero.
Huckabee has no credibility when it comes to telling the world where moral “threats” are coming from when he actively ignores the obvious threats right in front of him.
This is a guy who thinks Christian bakers are persecuted for getting money to make a cake they already sell. A guy who thinks government workers like Kim Davis are persecuted when told to do their jobs. A guy who once warned America about a “secular theocracy” even when there were literally 0 atheists in Congress.
It’ll be a wonderful day when his family is finally out of the public spotlight for good.
