Stanley Kubrick Knew How to Find Inspiration in the Face of Mortality

In a 1968 Playboy interview, director Stanley Kubrick gave remarkable answers that touched on human mortality and how to be inspired when you know you’re just living on a pale blue dot in the universe.

Now, this beautiful video offers that response with just the right imagery to go along with it:

I love this part:

The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent; but if we can come to terms with this indifference and accept the challenges of life within the boundaries of death — however mutable man may be able to make them — our existence as a species can have genuine meaning and fulfillment. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.

It’s really a brilliant encapsulation of Humanist philosophy. We can set our own course and do incredible things before our expiration date hits.

What’s stopping you from making the most of your lucky existence?
