He Left His Faith After Seeing the Catholic Church’s Response to Terri Schiavo

Seth Andrews recently spoke with Eddie, a man who moved from South Africa to the U.S. to study religion. He was a religious man when he came here, but in a twist I’ve never heard before, he began questioning his faith during the controversy involving Terri Schiavo.

Specifically, when the Catholic Church attempted to intervene in her medical care, Eddie realized “the Church wasn’t really about promoting God, but rather about promoting its own agenda so that it can control people.”

Once he discovered science, later in life, he became excited and eager to learn as much as he could to make up for lost time. He was able to find a lot of resources — and other people who shared similar journeys out of faith — through Recovering from Religion.

A version of his story could probably be told by many, many people.
