Parenting Conference Led by Pastor Who Sexually Assaulted Girl Canceled

Remember Andy Savage? He’s the megachurch pastor from Memphis who sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl two decades ago when he was her youth pastor. The victim recently went public with her story about how Savage had driven her to a secluded area, whipped out his penis, and pressured her into giving him oral sex.

Savage finally came clean to the entire Highpoint Church congregation last month without going into details — they gave him a standing ovation for it — and the other church leaders subsequently announced that Savage would be taking a “leave of absence” while they investigated the situation.

Before this story drew national attention, Andy Savage was scheduled to lead a conference all about how to “raise kids who are loved, safe, happy and ready for anything.” Seriously. A guy who sexually assaulted a teenager wanted to give parents advice on how to raise kids — presumably to avoid men like him.

It was called the #7000Days Parenting Conference, a reference to the approximate number of days between birth and going to college, and last week, they finally pulled the plug on the event.

We are sorry to inform you that the 7000DAYS Conference which was scheduled for April 20-21, 2018 has been canceled.

I know that many of you are excited about this event. And while this decision wasn’t taken lightly, we feel this is the best decision at this time. However, please know that everyone here at 7000Days & Highpoint Church is still committed to helping parents throughout your 7000DAYS journey.

Again, we are deeply sorry about this decision. We hope to see you at our next event.

Notice they said nothing about why the event was canceled. They didn’t even mention Savage’s name. They’re just hoping no one remembers that Andy Savage coerced a 17-year-girl into giving him oral sex when he was her youth pastor.

An independent investigation of Savage’s actions is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month.
