Nearly 18 months after we first heard rumors that there would be a Passion of the Christ sequel, actor Jim Caviezel says the movie is happening, he’ll be playing Jesus again, and it is “going to be the biggest film in history.”
Caviezel, 49, confirmed he will reprise his role as Jesus in the planned film about the resurrection of Christ. “There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience,” he says. “It’s great. Stay tuned.”
“I won’t tell you how [Mel Gibson’s] going to go about it,” Caviezel says. “But I’ll tell you this much, the film he’s going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It’s that good.”
I don’t really understand the secrecy here. It’s the story of Jesus. It’s not exactly under wraps.
And while it almost certainly won’t be the biggest film in history, the 2004 film really was a surprise hit, making over $600 million on a budget of only $30 million. (Domestically, it ranks as the 35th most popular movie ever.) It was only a matter of time before Jesus came back. There’s too much money on the table to ignore.
The real question is what Jesus will do in the next film.
