Greek Orthodox Leader Blames Atheist Prime Minister for Deadly Flood

Deadly floods hit Greece last week, killing nearly two dozen people and destroying almost 1,000 buildings including houses. It’s incredible devastation in a very short time.

Naturally, a representative of the Greek Orthodox church, Metropolitan Bishop Ambrosios of Kalavryta, is blaming atheist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras… because God must be angry about that.

In a post on his personal blog, Ambrosios also said the floods wouldn’t have happened if clergy members had been invited to speak about the natural disaster instead of so-called experts.

He called out the “atheist prime minister and many government ministers” in his fiery post about the floods, which decimated towns in the western outskirts of Athens.

He complained that television stations included politicians, engineers, meteorologists and other “experts” to discuss the circumstances surrounding the tragic weather events, but not a single man of the clergy was invited on a panel of experts to explain that above all, such weather phenomenon were matters of God.

Needless to say, you don’t need a religious representative talking about why the weather is awful. You need experts. You need first responders. You need politicians who can help in the aftermath.

You need people who aren’t irrational enough to blame atheists for a natural disaster.
