This is one of those stories where the headline really says everything you need to know as well as everything we actually know.
21-year-old Raekwon Pauldo was charged with fatally shooting his friend, 20-year-old Jacquell Smith, in the head on Sunday. Why would the Georgia native do such a thing? The supposed reason will leave you with so many more questions…
“Apparently two friends got into an argument,” Dublin police Chief Tim Chatman said Monday. “These are friends. They’ve been knowing each other for a long time. They were arguing over stuff that didn’t make any sense. As a result of that argument, one of the gentlemen just shot him — shot him in the head twice.”
When asked what the argument was about, Chatman said, “… at one point in time they were arguing over the Bible, about forgiveness,” the chief said, “and then that turned to something else.”
… What the hell? How do you go from “turn the other cheek” to pulling a trigger? Twice?!
No one seems to know. Chatman added that “it went from zero to one hundred in a matter of seconds over nothing.”
I have to believe there’s more to it than just some theological disagreement. But unless more information turns up, all we can do is speculate, and that’s always dangerous. For now, though, we just know that Smith lost his life. But Pauldo clearly lost the argument.
