Michael Peroutka believes accepting evolution is anti-American. He’s so against science that he once donated an allosaurus skeleton (worth approximately $1.5 million) to the Creation Museum instead of, you know, a real museum.
And now, wouldn’t you know it, he’s done something else idiotic inspired by his Christian faith.
Peroutka, an Anne Arundel County (Maryland) Councilman, has been criticized at meetings lately for his previous affiliation with the League of the South, a secessionist group whose founder is racist. Peroutka responded to those claims by saying he’s totally not racist. There’s no such thing as race since we’re all part of the human race! And if there is racism in America, it’s the racism of abortion.
The “real racism” is in the targeted killing of African-American babies by Planned Parenthood and the philosophy of its founder, Margaret Sanger, Peroutka wrote.
“Again, this [the removal of Confederate statues] is fake racism,” Peroutka wrote on his website. “And to promote it is to detract from real racism in our midst. And what could be more racist than a national program designed to eliminate black people? What could be more racist than a black genocide?”
Fact check: Planned Parenthood is not a national program designed to eliminate black people. Peroutka must be getting that organization confused with the GOP.
He seems to think banning abortion would somehow put an end to police brutality and discrimination in hiring. He’s also deflecting from some very real issues by urging citizens to ignore his past affiliation, while at the same time pretending racism doesn’t exist. But ignoring the issue is part of the problem.
Even if he doesn’t resign, the more often citizens raise these concerns during county council meetings and in the local media, the more difficult it is for Peroutka, who only got 52% of the vote last time around, to get re-elected next year.
