Jim Bakker: No One’s Mocking Me and My Buckets of Food After Hurricane Harvey

Televangelist Jim Bakker has become self aware.

On his show yesterday, he claimed that after Hurricane Harvey, no one was laughing at him anymore for hawking giant buckets of food.

Which means he knows we laugh at him… but it also means he thinks we’ve stopped doing that. So I guess take back what I said about him being self-aware.

“These things, when God does them, God doesn’t fool around!” Bakker bellowed. “Yesterday, I almost lost it. You know, for the last several years, preachers — even in this city — and evangelists have beat the you-know-what out of me and made fun of me because we store food.

“They preach about it,” he claimed. “Whole revivals just preaching about Jim and Lori, ‘Ha, ha, ha, they’re storing food, that stupid Jim Bakker.’ I just came from the flood zone! Nobody was laughing at me! They all wanted the crazy preacher’s food!

Bakker sells buckets of food meant to last decades. That’s not what people in Houston were clamoring for. (Even the video clip of him serving food doesn’t look like he’s handing out the glops of gruel we’re used to seeing.)

For a man who once blamed a hurricane on President Obama and said Hurricane Harvey was God’s “judgment on America” for our sins, he sure knows how to capitalize on the misery of other people.

Which is why we’ll continue to mock him every chance we get.
