You Can’t Cherry Pick Mormon Doctrine To Brush Off Its Racist Past

A YouTube channel called “3 Mormons” put out a video back in June trying to make sense of the religion’s ban on black men in the priesthood, which lasted until 1978. They discussed whether those clearly racist views could be reconciled with a good, true faith they held dear.

Drew McCoy (a.k.a. Genetically Modified Skeptic) just responded to their video, pointing out where their logic goes wrong. In effect, he says, the 3 Mormons wanted to defend the religion but ended up discrediting the Church’s own doctrine.

The people who put forth and defended the racist policies for so long believed they were doing exactly what Heavenly Father called for. You can’t brush off the past and say it wasn’t really what God wanted while assuming all the current policies are just fine.
