In case you need more evidence of how out of touch with reality Donald Trump‘s base is, a new survey from Public Policy Polling finds that more than half of Trump’s supporters believe Christians face more discrimination than any other religious group.
Christians have a President who at least pays them lip service, a Vice President who is truly one of them (in all the worst ways), and a House and Senate that’s more than 90% their own people. There are no travel bans blocking them from entering the country. Trump has signed an executive order (theoretically) giving their pastors a special right to promote candidates from the pulpit without losing their churches’ tax exemptions. There is literally an Evangelical Advisory Board that has the President’s ear. Trump waffled when condemning marchers who were chanting, “Jews will not replace us.” Franklin Graham delivered an opening prayer at this week’s rally in Arizona.
And yet the people in Trump’s base think Christians have it worse than Muslims, Jews, and everyone else.
That’s how deluded they are.
I hope the next time PPP does a survey like this, they ask a follow up question to anyone who says Christians have it bad: Which other religious group would you like to trade places with?
I would love to know their answer to that question. Because if Trump’s base thinks Christians are the most persecuted, then who the hell do they think has it better?
By the way, it’s not just Trump’s base. More than half of Republican said the same damn thing.
That’s the GOP for you: They wander Capitol Hill complaining about how bad they have it. If only they knew where the rest of us were complaining from.
