Christian Host: Kids Should Avoid Harry Potter Books Since They Teach Tolerance

Conservative radio host Jesse Lee Peterson is furious — furious — that Hillary Clinton told an audience at an American Library Association conference that reading the Harry Potter books teaches kids tolerance and empathy for others.

How could that be a bad thing? Because, Peterson said, not everyone deserves respect.

“If that is true, immediately stop your children from reading Harry Potter,” Peterson said. “If it’s true that reading Harry Potter causes kids to be more open to immigrants and LGBT people, then you’re going to pay for brainwashing, traumatizing, turning your children away from good toward evil. I would shut down those books right away if that’s true.”

How dare these kids be brainwashed with lessons on respect and kindness?! said conservative Voldemort.

But this is par for the course for people like Peterson. There’s only one book that matters, and it’s vague enough to be interpreted in a million different ways. All the other ones the suggest a kind of secular morality must be avoided or kids might learn that Christianity isn’t the only framework for being a decent human being.

And as Peterson shows repeatedly, Christianity often fails at that goal.
