Donald Trump has all but declared his intentions to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement, meaning the U.S. will not agree, even symbolically, to take action against climate change.
Not that conservative writer Erick Erickson cares. He worships Jesus, dammit, and that means science, evidence, and nature can be fully ignored.
I worship Jesus, not Mother Earth. He calls us all to be good stewards of the planet, but doesn't mean I have to care about global warming.

He worships Jesus… but does the exact opposite of what He said.
100000000% sure my kids will have a habitable planet. This sort of hysteria is exactly why I couldn't care less about global warming. https://t.co/M21IS3oKZ1

The issue isn’t that his kids won’t have a place to live. The issue is that we’re screwing over our own species, generations down the line, because of our current ignorance and reluctance to tackle what every other advanced country recognizes as a major threat to civilization.
Erickson’s also wrong if he thinks this won’t affect his kids. The rising sea levels, more intense heat waves, more frequent forest fires are all hurting people right now. And they’re hurting poor people more than everyone else. Jesus had something to say about the poor, but Erickson may not have gotten that far in the only book he cares about.
This is the same Erick Erickson, by the way, who gave up on elementary level math because he looked at his daughter’s textbook and couldn’t figure it out.
So we know how he thinks. If something doesn’t make sense to him, doing basic research and looking at the evidence and listening to experts is out of the question. That’s too much work for him. He’d rather come to a conclusion immediately, then defend it at all costs.
Scientific ignorance mixed with religious complacency is a bad combination.
And these conservatives with the ears of the Republican Party will continue advocating for inaction — successfully — unless the rest of us vote in people who actually understand what’s at stake.
