It was nearly a year ago when Pastor Roger Jimenez of the Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento, California expressed remorse over the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando.
He wasn’t upset nearly 50 people died. He was upset the body count wasn’t higher.
Speaking of the LGBT victims, Jimenez said “Florida is a little safer tonight!… The tragedy is that more of them didn’t die… I’m kind of upset that he didn’t finish the job! Because these people are predators! They are abusers!”
His most recent rant isn’t quite as nasty — how could it be? — but it’s also reprehensible, calling for children to be spanked. Because God gave our asses extra padding just for that reason.
You know, we’d do well if we just got back to the way America used to be, when mom stayed home and children got spanked. And we’re not talking about beating your children. We’re not talking about hitting them in the face. We’re not talking about a fist. We’re talking about taking that child, pulling down their skirt or their pants. You know that God gave children an area in their body that is extra padded and has a whole lot of nerves?
Physical abuse in the name of Jesus.
You could argue that reasoning with your child is a better way to teach them a lesson than forcing them to do something only out of fear… but what else is faith-based spanking but a poor Christian’s version of Hell?
Be good or else you’ll be punished. As if there’s no other reason to do the right thing.
