This week, during a “Congressional Pastors Briefing” organized by Christian pseudo-historian David Barton, Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA) told the gathered crowd that this was their country. Which, I guess, means the rest of us are screwed.
“If there is anything I want to leave you [with] today, it is a genuine, heartfelt thank you for just the deep awareness that we are in this thing together,” Hice said. “This is our country, it’s our turf and God has placed us here to be stewards at such a time as this and to stand in the gap.”
Got that, Jews, atheists, and Muslims? Jody Hice says you don’t belong here. At the very least, he’s saying public policy should benefit Christians.
That’s a disturbing thought when you consider that Republicans want to repeal the Johnson Amendment, which prohibits pastors from endorsing candidates from the pulpit if they want to maintain their tax exemption.
