Donald Trump’s Supporters Should Listen to This Powerful Monologue

Actress and writer Tess Rafferty, working with director Steve Cohen, recently released a video that’s essentially a monologue to all those Donald Trump voters, especially ones who also call themselves “Christians.” It’s harsh, but do they deserve anything less?

I’m tired of pretending that it’s somehow reasonable to teach creationism in public schools with my tax dollars, while you tell me that two same sex people who love each other, getting married, somehow threatens your marriage.

Let me say it right here — if you voted for Trump, I do think you are a racist. I do think you’re homophobic. I do think you’re a misogynist. Racism, and homophobia, and misogyny are all a spectrum, and you’re on it. You might not be a ‘cheering while a black man gets lynched’ racist, but boy, did you just sell them the rope and look the other way.

Internationally, who the fuck knows what this lunatic is going to do. And the scarier thought is that the only thing worse than this guy is the guy who’s one angry tweet away from the Presidency — Mike Pence — advocate for gay conversion therapy and mandatory funerals for fetuses

One of the biggest takeaways from the election for me was that there were so many more people than I expected who might normally promote respect, civility, religious freedom, equality, and civil rights… but when push came to shove, they weren’t turned off enough by a candidate who doesn’t give a damn about any of those things. They had a choice and they went with the racist, sexist, ignorant bigot.

As Rafferty said, may those voters don’t think of themselves as racist, for example, but they sure as hell supported someone who is. And the difference between those two things is much smaller than they imagine.
