A man has finally been arrested in connection with the murder. Rashidun Nabi Bhuiyan, allegedly a member of the Ansarullah Bangla terrorist group that was behind the deaths of other atheist bloggers, was in court earlier this week:
The [Dhaka] Tribune reports that Nabi confessed in court and asked for forgiveness, stating, “Please pardon me. We were misguided.”
He is expected to receive either a life sentence or capital punishment if convicted.
This was’t a solo attack, though, and there’s no telling if police have leads on any of the men who joined Bhuiyan in the murder plot. I guess we should at least be optimistic that Bangladeshi police are taking these murders seriously enough to go after the killers. Unfortunately, there’s no reason to think we’ve seen the last of these incidents. One’s man repentance says nothing about the terror network he was supposedly involved with.
