When You No Longer Believe in God But Still Want to Talk to Him

How would you respond to an atheist who still has a desire to pray?

7-pray

I would tell that person that there’s nothing preventing you from meditating, so you can do some self-reflection on whatever’s bothering you. You can still share your concerns with your friends, family members, or an online community of strangers. You can see a therapist.

The point is: No one heard you when you were praying. But you found comfort in hoping there was someone who could make things better. Now, a lot of people will listen, and they’ll give you the sort of honest, useful feedback that could actually be helpful. It’s so much more valuable.
