Gov. John Kasich Condemns Actor Daniel Radcliffe’s Atheism: “What the Hell Is Wrong With Him?”

Ohio Governor and former Presidential candidate John Kasich was in New Hampshire recently to endorse fellow Republican Chris Sununu for Governor. But a strange thing happened after his announcement.

During a tour of downtown Exeter, Kasich entered a bookstore, saw a Harry Potter book, and shared his irrational thoughts about Daniel Radcliffe, the openly non-religious actor who played Potter in the movies:

“You know that Daniel [Radcliffe] has declared himself an atheist?” Kasich said to no one in particular. “I’m serious. What a weird thing. Why would a guy who has had all that success just, I mean, what the hell is wrong with him?”

What does that even mean?

Successful people can’t be atheists? Just wait till Kasich learns about Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Mark Zuckerberg

Maybe some people realize that their success is a result of their own hard work instead of divine intervention. Maybe they realize that all the evidence we have points away from supernatural explanations of the world and everything in it. Maybe they see the damage caused by people who claim to act in the name of God and realize they want nothing to do with it.

But the bigger issue here is that Kasich thinks there’s something “wrong” or “weird” with being an atheist. It’s not a difference of opinion; he feels they’re inferior to him.

If that’s what a moderate Republican sounds like, no wonder that whole party is in disarray right now.
