Less than a year ago, after the tragic shooting of a six-year-old girl in Stockton, California, Mayor Anthony Silva used the city’s resources to sponsor a prayer rally. He promoted the rally on the city’s website and Facebook page and even used city resources to host the event.
And to top it off, he gave God a “key to the city“:
(God’s representatives were not available to accept it.)
This was the same mayor who “organized Town Hall meetings, co-sponsored by Christian organizations, at Calvary First Assembly of God and at Christian Life Center.” Mixing church and state was just what he did, consequences be damned.
He’s obviously a strong, devout Christian and not afraid to tell the world about how much he loves God.
Which is why his recent scandal won’t surprise any of you:
Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva was arrested Thursday at his youth camp on charges that he played strip poker with a minor and provided youngsters with alcohol, according to authorities.
“In one of the video clips, it appeared that moments after the video began, the phone was set down, darkening the camera lens and thus only containing audio. That clip contains audio of a conversation between participants involved in a strip poker game that occurred in Silva’s bedroom,” prosecutors said in a statement. “The conversation between the participants indicated that they were naked.”
Silva, of course, belongs to the party of family values.
This isn’t even Silva’s only scandal this week. A few days ago, it was discovered that a gun registered to Silva was used to kill a 13-year-old boy in a drive-by shooting. Silva claimed the gun was stolen, though he didn’t report it as such until a month after that shooting occurred.
Maybe he shouldn’t have given God that key.
