See if you can handle this sentence:
A group of public school bus drivers in Tennessee were honored at a reception in a local Christian church, where they recited a pre-meal Christian prayer, and everything was organized by Hawkins County Board of Education Chairman Chris Christian.
You can’t make that up.
Look: I’m all for thanking the staff at the end of the year, and bus drivers have a thankless job deserving of praise, but Jesus shouldn’t play any role in their public appreciation. It’s not like the church was the only place that could’ve held all the drivers — there were only about 50 people there, total.
Instead of honoring them in a secular way, the school made clear, purposely or not, that only the Christian drivers mattered to them.
It could result in legal problems if they don’t change the procedure for next year.
