We’re used to Christian bakers refusing to bake cakes for gay customers, but here’s a new type of bakery discrimination: Someone in Michigan canceled her order after finding out that the owners were Muslim.

Zeinab Mohamed says when the buyer found out the her last name she canceled the order, saying a her husband was a war veteran and would never buy a cake from a Muslim. Mohamed’s husband is not only Muslim, but a war veteran himself.
I’m not sure what the customer thought would happen… that the cake would be tainted? That the money for the cake would be handed over to ISIS? Either way, the Muslim couple is handling this remarkably well, going public with this story in the hopes that it will help end the cycle of hate.
There’s a wonderful outpouring of support on the bakery’s Facebook page — and some delicious looking goods, too, in case you’re interested.
