Warner Bros. Files Trademark Applications for “Festivus” and “Festivus for the Rest of Us”

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. has filed trademark applications for the word “Festivus” and the phrase “Festivus for the rest of us.”

Which makes you wonder what will happen the next time an atheist decides to put up a Festivus pole in a State Capitol…

We don’t know what Warner Bros. plans to use the trademark for, but the applications, if approved, allow for extensive use that includes:

Printed matter and paper goods, namely, books featuring characters from animated, action adventure, comedy and/or drama features, comic books, children’s books, magazines featuring characters from animated, action adventure, comedy and/or drama features, coloring books, children’s activity books

In case you’re wondering, yes, there’s a connection between Warner Bros. and the show Seinfeld. But that doesn’t necessarily explain why the company is filing the trademark applications now.

I asked Chaz Stevens, who put up Festivus poles in state capitols over the past couple of years, how he’d react to this. His response was blunt:

Introducing the 2017 Multi-Colored Festivus-like Tubular Assembly For Most People.
