What have peaceful Muslims had to go through following Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris?
Here’s a depressing glimpse at what some have had to deal with:
A Muslim family said Sunday that they might be victims of a hate crime after shots were fired into their Orlando house.
Amir and Nehal Elmasri said when they returned home to their gated community from feeding the homeless Sunday morning, they noticed a bullet hole in their garage door. The family said that the bullet went through their garage and into their master bedroom. [Link]
When members of the Islamic Center of Pflugerville [Texas] (ICP) went to open their mosque for morning prayer on Monday, they found feces splattered in front of the mosque with torn pages from the Quran. [Link]
Sure enough, less than two-days after the attacks, [Abdul Rahim] Hubbs and the rest of the Ahmaddiya Muslim Community arriving for afternoon prayer were greeted by protesters outside the Portland Rizwan Mosque in Southwest Portland [Oregon].
For about 45 minutes, he says, the group, made up of only a handful of sign-slinging protesters, stood on the sidewalks outside the building. [Link]
Peterborough [Ontario] police are investigating a case of arson at the city’s only mosque, an act that the president of the local Muslim association says was a “clearly a hate crime.”
The fire broke out at the Kawartha Muslim Religious Association’s mosque around 11 p.m. Saturday, police said. No one was inside the Masjid Al-Salaam mosque at the time. [Link]
How ignorant and reactionary do you have to be to go after people who had absolutely nothing to do with what happened in Paris? What they have to go through is just awful. And they deserve none of it.
I sincerely hope the crimes were not committed by any atheists. You can criticize Islam all you want, but there’s no justification to go after Muslims who did nothing wrong. It’s a sad reflection on how our society responds to terrorism that we’ll go after people who merely look like the attackers.
