The Ten Commandments Monument at the Oklahoma Capitol Building Will Finally Come Down

Oklahoma state officials have been trying to protect the Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of the State Capitol ever since the state’s Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional back in June.

Earlier this month, a judge announced he wasn’t putting up with the state officials’ bullshit any longer, telling them they had until October 12 to take down the monument.

And now, finally, the state appears to be complying:

A state committee on Tuesday told the state Office of Management and Enterprise Services to cart away the 6-foot-tall granite statue as ordered by an Oklahoma County judge after a ruling by the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

John Estus, a spokesman for the state management agency, said officials need to discuss security and logistics before the removal.

It’s not clear where it will go, or what day it will depart.

The State Capitol Preservation Commission’s vote to remove the monument was 7-1 with one member abstaining.

Who’s still voting against this?!

Eh. It’s irrelevant, I guess. Just like it doesn’t matter where this monument goes from here. As long as it’s gone from the State Capitol, a place it never should have been in the first place.
