Pat Robertson: Christians Can Ignore the Book of Leviticus (but the Anti-Gay Parts Still Apply)

Pat Robertson loves to cite the Book of Leviticus when he’s ranting against homosexuality.

But on today’s episode of The 700 Club, Robertson made clear that Leviticus is a book all True Christians™ can ignore:

… The idea that you’ve got to stay out of a room with a menstruating woman or something… I’m not sure where you found that either! [Laughs] Wherever you found it, you don’t have to worry about it, because what you do is love each other!

Love! That’s what the Bible is all about!

Unless you’re gay. In which case, God doesn’t give a damn about you. Unless you’re abstinent for life. Then God love you again. Something like that.

Perhaps realizing the obvious hypocrisy here, Robertson later brought up how Leviticus totally still applies if we’re talking about homosexuality:

The Bible didn’t talk about civil rights. It talked about “this was an offense against God” and the land… would vomit you out. Read it! 18th chapter. Leviticus. Get your Bible. Read it. See what it says.

Huh. That’s what I did. Turns out Leviticus 18:19 — just three verses before the infamous anti-gay passage — mentions menstruating women:

Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period.

I guess he skipped that line during his reading.
