When Jim Bob Duggar was running for U.S. Senate in 2002, his campaign website explained his positions on the issues.
Turns out he called for the death penalty for those who committed incest.
That’s gotta be awkward now that we know his son Josh Duggar molested five little girls, including four of his sisters, when he was a teenager.
Take a look at how Jim Bob explained his stance on incest in a passage about abortion:
If a woman is raped, the rapist should be executed instead of the innocent unborn baby. Adoption is an option. Many couples would love to adopt and are waiting for a baby. Abortion has been and always will be the destruction of an innocent child. Rape and incest represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes. The developing infant committed no crime and should be allowed to live. In the unlikely event that the life of both mother and baby would both be lost (for example, a tubal pregnancy) all should be done to save the life of the mother.
Yikes… I’m all for punishing rapists, but that’s some Old Testament-level judgment right there.
While his son didn’t impregnate his sisters, Jim Bob took a very different approach when dealing with Josh’s crimes. Not only did he not tell the police what happened for a full year, he didn’t even send Josh (or his sisters) to a trained counselor for treatment.
So not even a slap on the wrist for the son who touched his sisters’ vaginas… but the death penalty for everyone else if they go a little further.
Even in Arkansas, the people rejected the Duggars’ way of thinking.
