Sam Harris: Media Outlets Worldwide Should Have Published the New Charlie Hebdo Cover Simultaneously

In his latest podcast, Sam Harris responds to the Charlie Hebdo attacks by, among other things, saying that media outlets everywhere should have posted the recent post-massacre cover of the magazine en masse as a show of solidarity:

It’s just astonishing the media cannot do the one thing that it could do to keep it and everyone else safe, and it can’t do the one thing that would’ve kept the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists safe, which is publish, en masse, all of these cartoons and present a united front against this creeping theocracy…

Every newspaper and magazine and news outlet on Earth should have agreed to print the latest Charlie Hebdo cover immediately, on the same day, and spread the risk…

Freedom of speech never infringes on freedom of religion…

The commentary also includes rants against Reza Aslan, his thoughts on Noam Chomsky, the strange censorship rules in other countries, and how it’s foolish to dismiss the teachings of Islam in any analysis of why these attacks occurred. He also goes into why he charged money to watch his online lecture about his new book instead of just giving it away for free.
