Mike Smith, the President of the LaGrange Humanists (in Georgia), was in the hunt to become the next mayor of his city:

Unfortunately, he lost.
He got 2% of the votes. And that’s rounding up. 71 votes out of over 4,000.
LaGrange Mayor
Jimmy D. McCamey Jr.: 1,424 (34%)
Mike Smith: 71 (2%)
Jim Thornton: 2,649 (64%)
But that’s okay! He took one for the team. (That’s how I’m spinning this, anyway.)
Alas, it looks like the city’s ordinance that makes it a crime to laugh near a church will still be in effect.

Smith didn’t accept any campaign donations out of principle.
