Scholarships for College Students to Attend Northwest Free-thought Alliance Conference in Portland

Two different scholarships offer college students the opportunity to see our very own Friendly Atheist, Hemant Mehta, at the Northwest Free-thought Alliance Conference in Portland, OR the weekend of April 5-7th.

The conference also features Darrel Ray (author of The God Virus: How Religion Affects Our Lives and Sex and God: How Religion Distorts Sexuality), Valerie Tarico (author of Trusting Doubt: A Former Evangelical Looks at Old Beliefs in a New Light), and Australian folk singer-songwriter Shelley Segal.

For college students studying in Washington State, Seattle Atheists is offering three full conference admissions for essay winners who answer the following questions:

  • What do you feel is the most pressing issue for the atheist movement today?
  • We believe that science and reason are the best, most reliable ways to understand the world we live in, and to meet the challenges that life presents us with. How do you incorporated this approach into your own life?
  • What role should the atheist movement take in making the world a better place?

Answers can be submitted here and are due by Monday, March 4th.

The Northwest Free-thought Alliance is also offering the Dustin Finney Award in his memory. To qualify, you must be an upper division or graduate student majoring in Environmental Sciences in the Pacific Northwest. They’re looking for someone who has given back to the freethought community. Applications can be submitted here. The winner will receive $500 to help with school expenses.
