Pennsylvania Atheists Form ‘Human Tree of Knowledge’ Outside Courthouse

For the third time in as many years, the Freethought Society was barred from putting up their Tree of Knowledge in front of the Historic Chester County Courthouse in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

In protest, members of the group stood outside the courthouse on Saturday and formed a Human Tree of Knowledge (for the second straight year):

Staks Rosch was there and shares his experience:

About twenty-five people gathered at this year’s rally and aside from one person yelling out his car window that we were all going to Hell and then wishing us a Merry Christmas, there wasn’t any negative reactions this year. There were quite a few honks in support from passersby and a few people who were walking by stayed to listen to a speech or two.

Several supporters spoke about the books they had chosen for the Human Tree of Knowledge and to give their support for the Tree of Knowledge display in general. After the Human Tree of Knowledge was formed… the group sang songs and socialized before heading out as a group to a nearby restaurant for dinner.
