Catholic Bishop Orders Reading of Anti-Obama Sermon This Weekend

Back in the spring, Bishop Daniel R. Jenky of the Diocese of Peoria (Illinois) said the following about President Obama:

Bishop Daniel R. Jenky doing his best PZ Myers impression

Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services, and health care.

In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama — with his radical, pro abortion and extreme secularist agenda, now seems intent on following a similar path.

This fall, every practicing Catholic must vote, and must vote their Catholic consciences, or by the following fall our Catholic schools, our Catholic hospitals, our Catholic Newman Centers, all our public ministries — only excepting our church buildings –- could easily be shut down. Because no Catholic institution, under any circumstance, can ever cooperate with the [intrinsic] evil of killing innocent human life in the womb.

This weekend, Jenky will try one more time to convince Catholics that Obama represents All the Evil by ordering all priests under his watch to read an anti-Obama missive:

Today, Catholic politicians, bureaucrats, and their electoral supporters who callously enable the destruction of innocent human life in the womb also thereby reject Jesus as their Lord. They are objectively guilty of grave sin. For those who hope for salvation, no political loyalty can ever take precedence over loyalty to the Lord Jesus Christ and to his Gospel of Life. God is not mocked, and as the Bible clearly teaches, after this passing instant of life on earth, God’s great mercy in time will give way to God’s perfect judgment in eternity.

In short: Don’t vote for the Christian guy. He hates Jesus. Vote for the Mormon instead!

Oh, wait… Jenky wants to assure you he wasn’t telling anybody how to vote:

“Again, I am not telling you which party or which candidates to vote for or against,” he said. “But I am saying that you need to think and pray very carefully about your vote, because a vote for a candidate who promotes actions or behaviors that are intrinsically evil and gravely sinful makes you morally complicit and places the eternal salvation of your own soul in serious jeopardy.

And I’m not saying Jenky’s an asshole but anyone who instills irrational fear into gullible people in order to achieve his own political whims deserves a bus ticket to hell.
