    Religion tells straight atheist men to follow their natural inclinations towards atheist women, especially at conferences (refer to Galatians 5:19). 

    Atheist women evaluate most atheist men as sexually yucky beta males, reject their advances and complain about sexual harassment.

    Great job, but I have one quibble.

    In the video, at 1:05, she says:

    “Let her make the selection.  She has many choices and limited resources.  Stick around, if she tells you she loves you and you feel the same, stick around and you can begin to form a bond.”

    Now, I am not a man, but I doubt this is how it works.  As a woman, I would prefer to form a bond BEFORE I tell someone I love them.  If someone told me they loved me before we bonded, I would head for the hills.  I also don’t think it is the woman alone who makes the selection… at least not in the society in which I live.  And, the “limited resources” may be ingrained in our brains from the past, but hardly holds up today.  I may be reading way too much into this, but I can’t agree at all with this portion of the video.

    As a woman who is quickly turning Atheist, I do no such thing. Frankly, I’m more inclined to trust an Atheist in the beginning, because at least they’ve shown themselves capable of critical thinking. 

    Not saying there aren’t asshole Atheists or good Theists, just saying that the default assumption is better for the Atheist since most “religious” people think I’m property and want me dead.

    Do you read the Roissy-sphere (the eponymous blogger now goes by Heartiste)?

    During Watson-gate (Rebecca, not James) the above was a common sentiment amongst this sphere.  And might I add – an obviously correct interpretation of all these “sexual harassment” claims now popular at atheist conferences.  Here’s SNL (that bastion of right-wing and anti-woman politics) on the true nature of sexual harassment:

    This is stupid. The ‘brain’ doesn’t think this rationally in the face of lust. It just shuts down! I agree religion’s views on sex are ludicrous, but c’mon non-religionists are not thinking it out as calmly and rationally in the face of attraction as she is making it out to be.

    She’s. not necessarily describing rational thought processes of the mind, but largely unconscious natural responses of the brain. It’s just translated into a non-technical form to make an apples-to-apples comparison with religious proscription.

    I hate to break this to you but I think the SNL skit is meant to be a joke, but then perhaps your post is too. It’s hard to tell, Poe’s law seems to apply to MRA’s as much as it does to fundies.

  • The brain is responsible for much more than just the thoughts you hear yourself think. It’s in charge of everything you do, conscious or unconscious. The brain is very active during sexual situations, though of course more in an instinctual way than a calm, rational way.
