Support The Good Atheist’s Kickstarter!

I have a confession to make:

I have never read the Bible.  I read Genesis for a lit class in college, but when I tried to power through some more, I nearly died of boredom.

Jacob Fortin of feels our pain and has a solution.

It’s called Bible Stories, and he is translating the Good Book into something a bit more entertaining and a little funnier… and he will not be glossing over the insane crap that gets dropped from any given children’s Bible.

And he’s illustrating the whole thing himself!  Check out this cover:

Look! That's Jake beating the tar out of an angel!

He launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the project, and he has some pretty cool incentives in exchange for your contributions.  Of course, you can get either a hard cover, soft cover, ebook or PDF copy of the book, and you can also get the audio book, but check this out:  If you donate $250, you get your face drawn into the book:

This could be me if I had $250! (And I don't mind telling you that I maxed out my Photoshop skills on this)

So go forth and donate, gentle reader, and be generous to our friend Jacob.

While you’re at it, stop by his blog or listen to his podcast.

Still not convinced?

Here’s the man himself to tell you about his project:

How can you say no to that?

    R. Crumb illustrated all of Genesis into a comic book a few years ago, and it’s great. He’s said that even though he doesn’t believe in it, he tried to be as faithful to the source as possible. (Of course some Christians were still upset about it, I guess they don’t know what’s in that horrible book.)

  • A staunch atheist who will tell me how stupid I am for believing in something that you’ve never read or investigated for yourself?  Instead you’d rather passively listen to someone else’s interpretation of it and then judge me for believing it? I never would have guessed such a person existed! (sarcasm)

And yet in that Pew poll atheists were more knowledgeable about religion than the religious. It’s doubtful that many religious people have read the Bible either and yet still proclaim it the word of god.

  • Interpretation? It’s illustrating existing stories as-is, not utilizing mental gymnastics in an attempt to make the stories fit into a modern-day context.

Someone with a BA in literature has never read the Bible? And also posts to an Atheist blog? I would be jealous….but…

Is someone doing that here? I think I missed it.
