  • Because toddlers have trouble enunciating Ts?  I’m not sure I get it.

  • gski

He is using the ‘a’ and the ish to denote a less than total commitment.

  • KLH

Like atheist-ish, not fully owning it yet.

  • JD929

Why not just let that be what agnostic means and not rag on people for using the term?

  • fett101

    Seems kind of juvenile.
I use little ‘a’ because atheism is not a religion. It’s a non-belief in deities, nothing more. Any additional trimmings like skepticism, humanism, etc are just extensions that may commonly go along with that but are not exclusively related.

  • Ggsillars

I don’t think Dan Savage (originator of the term “monogamish”) is atheish; I think he’s pretty definite on that subject.

  • joezamecki

What’s it mean? A less strong version of Atheism doesn’t explain it. What does it mean?

  • joezamecki

Do you like the United States of America because it’s a religion? It’s capitalized… I hope you get the point.

  • fett101

I capitalize the United States of America because it is a proper noun. Atheism is not a proper noun.

I think hes got a foot in both camps, that is wants the benefits of both, his facebook statement is  something like “writing crap on the walls of religion”,but heh ive got a diploma in biblical studies so i can call myself “pastor”.Ive challenged him to come out but he only replys to compliments.

It’s because nakedpastor is a pastor. He posts his comics here because his ideals often line up with those of atheists. Unfortunately, he’s full of magical thinking and unbridled mysticism. Anyone who doubts that just read about his “z-scheme” or his “personal relationship” with Jesus. One might say, oh, you know … evangelicish. Be warned, though.. just by going to his site, you’ll be lining his pockets (the ultimate goal of all pastors) since the ads generate revenue for him for every site view.

Was a pastor.  He walked away from his church a couple of years ago, and, I would guess he isn’t making much money (most artists earn very little from their art and I doubt his blog yields much).     People do need a little bit of income to live.

I would also say he is a seeker and open about his seeking and his doubts.

Note that Hemant chooses to post his cartoons here because he finds them (or some of them) of worth (as do I).    Some are open to multiple interpretations.

The burden of proof is on the one making the claim.  I explicitly do NOT make a claim that there are no gods.  I make the claim that I have no belief in gods.  I am sceptical as to the claim that godsGod exists.  If some find that wishy washy or lacking commitment then that’s tough because I’m not going to make claims that I cannot support if I can help it.

As noted, not an employed pastor anymore. Also, I don’t think pastors are making the big money unless they head a megachurch or write best selling books. I think Red Headed Skeptic said she and her (now ex-) husband were making about minimum wage when they were co pastors in a church.

Dont assume that blogs make people a lot of money – that doesn’t happen except for very popular ones. Web pages don’t generate much money, probably not even a penny a page view, often it doesn’t pay at all unless people click an ad. Web advertising is a buyer’s market.

He’s an an “Agnosto-Thiest, a sort of an Agnostic, Atheist hybrid…”

There’s a beautiful story of how he came to that position.

  • AxeGrrl

meh.  The word ‘atheist’ isn’t normally capitalized anyway.

  •  Thanks for the link.  after watching it, I followed another link to an interview he did with Keith Olbermann on “The Book of Morman” where at the end, Dan owns his atheism.

  • I think he’s on his way out, at least if his comics are any indication. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up becoming an atheist at some point down the road.

  • articulett

I like this– it’s perfect for the atheist not quite willing to commit to the label.  (Send One to Neil Degrasse Tyson.)

  • dauntless

I would be surprised. He’s been “atheish” for years now. He was recently talking about opening a new church, if I recall.

  • Clarissa

This is me. I love this.

  • Ericka

Wow, that was potent. Made me cry.
