A Wonderful Video Recap of the Reason Rally

The video had an ad to this poll pop up…Should marriage be between a man and a women?  There is no way to see how many people voted for anything, I guess it’s more of a petition.

I think the national media let this go because it’s one thing to scare people with war and mayhem, it’s another to scare the living shit out of them with the simple truth.

  It’s hard for a grown up to tell a child there’s no santa so most are content to let the kids come to that realization by themselves.  Also, since most of these “grown ups” still believe in santa themselves, they’re not equipped for the discussion.  

Denial – first stage of grief – I know I keep harping on that, but I think it’s a valid framework.  After all, what reaction do you get most readily from a believer when you challenge their faith – step 2:  anger.  Fine – let’s get on with it then.  Let them get angry if it’ll help them get over the fairy tales.  Violence – no – but anger is natural.  Hopefully they’ll direct the anger towards the appropriate agencies – the people who lied to them all these millennia.

 Over the top to claim that thousands of people standing together on a lawn listening to big-name speakers who use the same tired old arguments is a sign of these people being “individuals” and “thinking for themselves,” but whatever. They aren’t any more “indivdual,” or thinking for themselves any more than people in churches are.

I got a picture with The Thinking Atheist and posted it on Facebook. He’s really nice in person and he was fun to talk to for a while.

Yes, a very well-made video! Interestingly enough, many Christians see the media as secularly inclined and biased against Christianity. It’s all in the point of view, evidently, but I think everyone can agree that the media is definitely not unbiased! : )

Though, if fairness/justice is relative, if there’s no higher standard…I guess we shouldn’t care one way or the other.

Actually, MSNBC had a good follow up Sunday Morning on the Up With Chris Hayes show.  Dawkins was a guest, as well as a pastor who came out as atheist.  The program should still be on the MSNBC site.

I don’t know Dan, maybe you have a point. All ages and cultures coming together in solidarity over a certain set of principles. Sounds sheeplike to me as well. How did they come to their beliefs Dan? Ancient dogma? Indoctrination and suspension of critical thinking? It’s ironic that someone who professes to be part of a 2000 year old cult would accuse atheists of using the ‘same old tired arguments’. Every person of non-faith I have ever met, has come to their own conclusions, in their own time. Most were raised in a religious environment, and attended church in compulsory fashion. The one hallmark of all these people is that they ‘thought’ themselves into their current position on theology and secularism. Open your mind, or find another bridge Danny. This rally/video gave me a sense of community I rarely get to experience, and it was quite cathartic. You are killing my happy vibe.

Yeah, the media is biased against Christianity. I guess that’s why in articles about teaching evolution in schools, they only talk to actual scientists and they never give an inordinate amount of time to Christians who don’t actually understand the science…oh wait.

Forget that example. The media is obviously biased against Christianity when it reports about glbt rights. I never see them interviewing Christians about their views on why somebody else shouldn’t have equal rights…er, strike that one out too.

Actually, right now I can’t seem to think of any anti-Christian bias in the news. In fact I’m pretty sure that any time thousands of Christians rally on the National Mall, it counts for headline news. But really, there’s tons of Christian, I mean, ANTI-Christian bias in the news. You guys just have to trust me on this one.

Any other rally of this magnitude would have garnered live coverage though. Why wasn’t there any live coverage?

I think enough people liked it to volunteer to put it on again.  I would,   A ten dollar contribution to register would ensure the viability of this fabulous event every year.  And that would let each person get a program of the schedule of events.
