• I love the poem. But those parents are pretty cheap if they’re buying their kid an N64 in 2011.

Very sweet and also true.

As a bonus question on a recent test I asked each student in one of my math classes to tell me how they found out the truth behind the Santa story. From the 100 valid responses, here are the results:
Students who figured it out on their own using whatever clues they might have found = 22%
Students who found their parents either wrapping, or putting gifts out = 20%
Students who figured it out, but didn’t give a detailed reason = 16%
Students who were told by a friend, or relative that was also a child = 18%
Students who were told by their parents = 6%
Students who were told, but didn’t give a detailed reason = 7%
Students who never believed, or were never told the myth = 11%

There was very little difference in the age of students when they figured it out, with the average age being about 7. Those told tended to be older with the group told by friends being about 9, and those told by parents were around 10.

• I like it!

thank you for sharing. I always feel weird about how we celebrate the holiday my husband and I grew up with, but don’t embrace the ‘magic’ of. We give gifts and decorate and enjoy time together and our christmas holiday has been so much more peaceful and relaxing for it. I remember what a nightmare it was growing up. All the stress to ‘celebrate’ made everyone argumentative and time strapped. Between church and the pressure to perform monetarily and the lack of sleep, everyone gets to be a little cranky. Kinda takes all the magic out of it huh?
